Petros commenced his career at the Bar in 2012 with a strong focus on personal injury and commercial litigation. Since that time, he has gained extensive experience in a range of other practice areas including family law, criminal law, equity, insolvency and bankruptcy, and common law.
Petros has a special interest in family law. The breadth of his long-standing experience in commercial matters, insolvency and property disputes, as well as his work in the fields of crime and mental health, provides Petros with a solid foundation upon which to navigate complex issues and provide effective advice and representation in family law property proceedings. The expertise he has gained as a criminal defence barrister also places him in a unique position to represent clients in complex parenting matters where criminal allegations are made, or where issues of risk are involved.
Petros’ experience in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and its predecessors has seen him act for clients, and for the Independent Children’s Lawyer, in interim hearings, final hearings and appeals. He also appear in the Guardianship Tribunal of New South Wales and the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Outside of his family law practice, Petros regularly appears unled at both trial and appellate level, as well as in interlocutory matters, in the Supreme, District and Local Courts of New South Wales, and the New South Wales Court of Appeal.
Petros has a passion for working closely and collaboratively with his clients to help them overcome the legal challenges that have impacted their lives. Commended for his strong interpersonal and communication skills, relatability, and real commitment to achieving the most favourable outcomes for his clients, Petros is valued for his diligence and hard-working nature, as well as his thorough preparation of matters. He is an accomplished advocate and effective cross-examiner in litigated matters and has a deep knowledge of the evidentiary considerations that arise in a wide variety of matters across various disciplines of the law. His multidisciplinary skill set also extends to providing representation as counsel in mediations, conciliations and arbitrations.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Petros practised as a solicitor at mid-tier law firms in areas in areas in which he continues to practice. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Technology, Sydney.
