Prior to being called to the Bar in 2016, James acquired significant experience in his areas of practice, which include administrative law, commercial and equity, corporations law and criminal law and proceeds of crime.
His international experience extends to having completed law school in the United States, after which he practised for several years as an attorney in the mergers and acquisitions group of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York. Upon returning to Australia, James practised as a regulatory lawyer in the Regulatory Policy Branch of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC). He later transitioned back into private practice and was most recently a Partner in the Sydney office of Atanaskovic Hartnell, specialising in contentious corporate matters and regulatory investigations, and then Principal of his own practice.
James’ international experience, combined with his front and back end experience in both reputable law firms and for a major Australian regulator, provides a solid foundation upon which to deliver high quality legal advice and representation in a broad range of State and Federal courts and tribunals.
James holds a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University.
