FJC History

Sir Frederick Jordan
The Honourable Sir Frederick Jordan, KCMG. Chief Justice of NSW 1934-1949
Barristers Chambers Limited leased the first six floors of 127 Phillip Street. This was named Forbes Chambers after the first NSW Chief Justice.
Members of Barristers Chambers Limited formed the present cooperative society, Barristers Services Co-operative Limited, leasing floors at 233 Macquarie Street. The new chambers were named Frederick Jordan Chambers.
Frederick Jordan Chambers moved to the present location, 53 Martin Place, working from rooms on six floors of the heritage-listed former APA building. We are close to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and within walking distance of the District Court, Downing Centre Local Court, Family Court, Industrial Relations Commission and Land and Environment Court.

For more than 40 years Frederick Jordan Chambers has been a leading co-operative of Sydney barristers providing specialist advocacy services and advice in all areas of litigation.

Chambers has over 100 barristers of whom two are former Supreme Court judges and 17 are Senior Counsel. More than a quarter of our barristers are women, including two Senior Counsel. Each year we offer places for six readers who have passed the Bar entry examinations.

Several of our barristers are also qualified mediators. A number of our members sit on statutory tribunals, and more than 20 members have been approved for inclusion on specialist panels established by the Legal Aid Commission. Members are regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences, and Chambers is well represented on the Committees of the NSW Bar Association and Bar Council.
